The Springtown Masonic Lodge, formally known as Eureka Lodge No. 371, is constructing a storage building as it absorbs the Masonic Lodge in Boyd. It has also absorbed a lodge that was in Joplin, and the need for additional space comes as the Springtown lodge takes in furniture, records and historical artifacts that are more than a century old.

“When we accept them, they automatically become members of our lodge,” said David Taylor, one of the Masonic leaders at the Springtown lodge. Taylor noted that taking in other Masonic lodges preserves relationships and the history of neighboring lodges.

Materials from closed lodges are traditionally sent to the Grand Lodge in Waco, the headquarters of Texas Masonry, where storage capacity is limited. As more lodges close, the influx of materials could put local historical items at risk of being lost.
