The Springtown City Council approved a landscaping revision for a new elementary school during its March 26 meeting. The agenda item, previously discussed at the February city council meeting, centered on a request from the Springtown Independent School District to revise the ratio of trees to shrubs at the site of Elementary No. 4, also known as Littleton Springs Elementary.
School officials emphasized the request was not for an overall reduction in trees, but rather a reconfiguration of plantings to address TEA security audits.
“Every three years we have auditors come in,” SISD Superintendent Shane Strickland told the council. “They do look at the landscape because it is a line-of-sight type of issue. I’ve dealt with safety and security audits for years; that is one of the checklists for our safety and security audit is the line-of-sight and how much obstruction there is around the campus.”
