The SISD music program celebrated a significant milestone as all four concert bands earned “Superior” ratings from every judge at the recent UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest.
Scot McPhetrige, director of bands for SISD, said the ratings reflect both student performance and a measure of program accountability in a subject area that is not shown by standardized testing.
“The judges have a strict rubric which they use to assess the band’s performance,” said McPhetrige. “Earning a superior rating from every judge at the contest indicates that the band is being taught the things they should be taught.”
