The Texas Department of Agriculture has recognized SISD’s Child Nutrition Department at the highest level of Commissioner Sid Miller’s Farm Fresh Challenge by awarding the department with the Cream of the Crop award. The department was also honored in the USDA Foods Challenge which highlights school systems that effectively utilize federally provided food resources.
These momentous recognitions reflect the unwavering dedication, planning and coordination led by Child Nutrition Director Laura Champagne and her team.
For the Cream of the Crop recognition, school districts must actively pursue the achievement by meeting strict guidelines such as sourcing fresh food from local vendors, provide educational seminars for students and maintain active social media outreach initiatives.
