Wendy Haynes and Jennifer Reyna proudly represented SISD’s SPED transportation team by earning second-place finish at the March 28 regional Bus Road-eo in Mansfield, signifying their progress made from last year’s third-place finish.

Reyna, a bus monitor, and Haynes, a SPED bus driver, were tested on a range of real-world transportation scenarios that simulate their daily responsibilities. The competition included a timed bus inspection, emergency evacuation procedures, wheelchair loading, student security and driving challenges such as backing a bus into a parking space.

“You get 12 minutes to do a complete bus inspection,’ Haynes said as she described the speed the duo worked at to complete the inspection of a bus that was not their daily vehicle for work. “You have to really get around. They use a different brand of bus. So we’ve got to learn where all their switches and gauges are — it’s a little challenging.”
