An EF-1 tornado packing winds of 105 mph touched down in Springtown in the late evening of April 25. Residential and commercial properties were damaged, and debris — largely from extensive tree destruction — was scattered throughout the area necessitating that emergency crews work throughout the night to respond.
The National Weather Service reports the tornado followed a path from northwest of the intersection of Holbrook Road and Highway 199, traveled southeast across State Highway 199, and crossed Farm-to-Market Road 51 near Bradshaw Road. It crossed Old Springtown Road and paralleled Veal Station Road and Midway Road before dissipating as it approached Azle near Farm-to-Market Road 730 South. The NWS estimates the tornado was on the ground for 32 minutes.
Assistant Fire Chief David Pruitt of Parker County EMS District No. 1 said debris in roadways initially slowed response times as crews navigated impacted areas.
