The Springtown Tabernacle has stood in the center of downtown for nearly nine decades and has served as a gathering place where residents hold picnics, forums, markets, elections and celebrations.

Springtown Legends Museum Coordinator Amy Hedges told the Springtown Epigraph the history surrounding the tabernacle stretches back further to the city’s earliest educational roots and community traditions.

Hedges said before the tabernacle was built in the 1930s, the area was home to the College Hill Institute.
