Springtown Vietnam veteran David Hawkins shared his experience during the April 25 storm that generated an EF-1 tornado while expressing gratitude for the volunteers who helped clear debris from his heavily damaged property.

Hawkins said he was inside his home when the storm suddenly intensified.

“People say it sounds like a freight train — I don’t think so,” he said.
