Miller advocates for ivermectin, pet experts urge vigilance amid NWS outbreak
The Texas Humane Legislation Network is encouraging pet owners to remain vigilant and monitor companion animals for signs of New World screwworm.

Author: Jose 'JJ' Balderas

As New World screwworm continues to spread across parts of South Texas, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to approve ivermectin in medicated feed for cattle and other livestock.

Miller said injectable ivermectin was a good start, but it does not solve the problem for large ranching operations.

He said feed-based ivermectin would help ranchers protect larger herds and could also help protect deer and other wildlife that cannot easily be gathered and treated.
