Children learned about the history of the telegraph and Morse code Wednesday, June 8 during a STEM activity at the Springtown Legends Museum.

Participants learned how the electric telegraph changed communication by allowing messages to travel quickly across long distances through wires. It marked an early step in technological advancement at a time when messages could take days or weeks to arrive on horseback or train.

Children also learned how telegraph operators used Morse code through a system of dots and dashes representing letters and numbers. Then they created bead bracelets using Morse code patterns, giving them a hands-on way to connect history with science and technology.
