Reno works through proposed 2026-27 budget

On Monday, Aug. 17, the Reno City Council spent much of its budget workshop and the special city council meeting that followed working through the city’s proposed 2026-27 budget. The discussion largely focused on vacant positions and when the city could realistically fill them.

Instead of budgeting every open position for a full 12 months, council members went through each position and adjusted anticipated start dates.

The goal was to better align the budget with when employees were expected to begin working based on hiring and training timelines, creating potential cost savings for the city.
