Reno considers higher rates for heavy water use

The Reno City Council moved closer to finalizing its proposed 2026-27 budget Thursday, Aug. 27 when council members discussed the city’s water rate structure.

After a presentation from public works director Jeremy Matthews, council members agreed to move forward with a proposed rate structure that would increase water rates for residents who use more than 20,000 gallons a month.

The increase is expected to generate about $2,000 a month, or $24,000 a year, for the city’s water fund.
