Following the Springtown City Council’s Sept. 24 proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Debbie Buckmann, program manager of Freedom House, said the month recognizes survivors while bringing attention to the abuse that may be happening unnoticed throughout communities.

“We want those people to know that they’re not forgotten,” Buckmann said.

“We also want to reach out to as many people in the community as we can to bring awareness because there may be people in the workplace, school or in different areas experiencing domestic violence and nobody knows it.”
