The Parker County Hospital District is working to expand the number of residents registered with the GoodSAM Responder App, a free program that alerts CPR-trained community members when someone nearby goes into cardiac arrest.

Jim Backus, director of emergency medical services for the Parker County Hospital District, said the app is connected to the district’s computer-aided dispatch system. When a cardiac arrest call comes into 911, emergency crews are dispatched while registered GoodSAM responders within the area can also receive an alert directing them to the location.

“On your phone, it’s going to show a map of where to go. You go to that location and you can start delivering good quality CPR before the ambulance gets there,” Backus said.
